What stays on your phone

Your selected apps, saved lists, daily limits, schedules, Focus history, preferences and notes are stored on your device. Website rules, where supported, are also local. We do not upload these details, your app-usage measurements, or the contents of other apps to our analytics service.

The scrolling estimate you enter during onboarding is used to illustrate possible time savings. It is not a measurement of your past activity, and neither the estimate nor the illustrated results are sent to analytics.

On iPhone

Apple’s Screen Time frameworks handle permission, app selection, activity reports and restrictions. Scroll Off uses Apple’s protected selection tokens. Its app and extensions share the local information needed to apply your rules using an Apple App Group.

The daily overview and default Stats can show activity across your phone, including apps outside your blocking lists. Reports are rendered through Apple’s report extension; they are not sent to our analytics. Scroll Off cannot read your feeds, messages or individual swipes.

On Android

Scroll Off reads installed-app names and icons to let you choose individual apps. Usage access lets it calculate time spent in apps and show a local ranking. This can include apps you have not selected for blocking.

Accessibility access lets Scroll Off detect the foreground app and display its blocking screen when a rule applies. The service receives app window-state events; it does not retrieve window contents, read messages, passwords or typed text, record your screen, or inspect your feeds. Its Home action can return you to your phone’s home screen.

These permissions are explained in the app and enabled in Android Settings. You can decline or revoke them. Blocking needs both permissions; usage reports need Usage access. Android controls the availability of its own usage history.

Local Focus history is limited to the latest 1,000 entries. Blocking-screen timing helps exclude time behind the shield from app usage; that record is capped at 4,000 entries and pruned to a rolling 31-day window when updated. Other rules and preferences remain until you change or reset them.

Optional product analytics

Configured production builds use PostHog Cloud EU to understand how Scroll Off’s interface works. Analytics is enabled by default and can be turned off in Profile → About & privacy. Blocking and subscription access do not depend on this choice.

We send defined events such as opening the app, reaching or completing an onboarding step, taking a setup action, and the outcome of a rule change or purchase attempt. Events can include timestamps, a named screen, step, action or result, and time spent in Scroll Off’s foreground interface.

A random installation identifier connects events from the same installation. Additional random identifiers distinguish sessions and onboarding journeys. This is pseudonymous data, not fully anonymous data: we can relate these events without knowing your name or email.

Analytics does not include your profile name, email, contacts, selected apps or list names, website domains, app-usage measurements, notes, onboarding estimate, selected limits, payment receipts, advertising ID or hardware identifier. Automatic screen recording, touch capture, person profiles and advertising attribution are disabled. We do not sell this data or use it to target ads.

PostHog processes events in its EU cloud region. The project is configured to discard client IP addresses from stored events and disable location enrichment. Receiving systems still process IP addresses in transit. The current free plan retains analytics events for up to one year.

Turning analytics off stops new captures and subsequent requests and clears unsent queues. It cannot recall a request already in flight or erase events already received. Re-enabling analytics uses the same installation identifier.

Purchases and subscriptions

On iPhone, Apple handles purchases, payment details, renewals, cancellations and refunds. Scroll Off uses StoreKit to check subscription access and expiry. Apple may ask you to authenticate when buying or restoring. This does not create a Scroll Off account.

We do not receive your card details or Apple Account credentials, and do not send transaction identifiers or receipts to PostHog or a Scroll Off server. Basic purchase outcomes may be included in the optional analytics above. The current Android test build has no purchase flow.

Notifications, widgets and sound

Optional notifications, widgets and Live Activities display information about your rules or Focus sessions. Your operating system controls their visibility and permissions. Bundled sounds do not use your microphone. We do not use notifications for advertising tracking.

Your choices and deletion

• Stop analytics: turn it off in Profile → About & privacy.
• Revoke blocking permissions: use your phone’s settings. Scroll Off will no longer be able to enforce the affected restrictions.
• Remove local rules: use Reset data & protection. Existing deliberate-pause or locked-Focus restrictions may apply first. The separate analytics preference and installation identifier are retained. Reset does not erase Apple’s or Android’s system usage records.
• Cancel a subscription: use Apple’s subscription settings. Resetting or deleting Scroll Off does not cancel a subscription.
• Ask about received data: email support@scrolloff.space. Because analytics is not linked to your name or email and the current app does not display its random identifier, we may be unable to identify a particular installation’s events from your email alone. We will explain what we can locate and delete. Do not send app selections, usage history or identity documents as a substitute.

You may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data, object to or restrict processing, or complain to your local privacy authority, depending on where you live. Contact us to make a request.

This website and support

This website is hosted by Cloudflare. Cloudflare processes network information such as IP addresses and request details to deliver and protect it. We do not install marketing analytics, advertising cookies or session recording on this website.

If you email support, we receive your email address, message and any attachments you choose to send. Cloudflare routes support email to our Gmail inbox. We use correspondence to respond and keep it as needed to resolve the request and meet applicable recordkeeping obligations. Please send only what is needed to explain the issue.

Our providers may process support or network data outside your country. Read Cloudflare’s privacy policy, Google’s privacy policy and Apple’s privacy policy for their services.

Changes

We will update this page and its effective date if our practices change. Material changes will be explained in the app where required.
